Interests

Kate's interests these days...watching Dora the Explorer, Cars, saying her name and age, cooking for mom, using the potty, doing "everything" herself, and walking with her mom and sister to and from school.

Jae and I still find her asleep on her bedroom floor when we wake in the morning, but at least she's in her room now and not waking us up in the middle of the night.

Silly Kate.

Kate spins!

This is Kate "dancing" to Connected, a song from Barbie and the Diamond Castle.

How many times can Kate spin before she gets dizzy?

Thursday, March 19

This girl's such a shorty. How do I get her to grow? I wish there were magic beans that would help her sprout.

Kate's so funny when she does Wii Fit. I'll have to capture a video of her doing Yoga. It's hilarous because she can barely touch her hands over her head so she places them in front of her face and she thinks it's funny when she gets her performance results. It's always zero points.

This blog needs to be updated or removed...still contemplating.

Food for Thought

Kate's eating beans. She loves baked beans.

She's been exploring a whole variety of flavors and textures. She loves breads and cereals, but is not quite fond of fruits quite yet. I suppose they are just too tart for her tastebuds. We even tried giving her the apple flavored pinwheel snacks. She'll lick it for taste and then toss it on the floor for Chloe to grab. At least Chloe likes 'em. She's tried a bit of jarred chicken, but it smells like cat food to me. In all the excitement of getting Kate to try new foods, I also got her jarred veal and lamb from the grocery store, but now that I think about it, I regret getting them...it's like feeding my baby baby animals.

But Kate's a riot and been quite a handful these days. Jae and I really need to catch up on our sleep. Raising 2 kids is really tiresome. I wonder if the girls will still wake up at 6 am when they are ten years old.

I would post more photos, but Jae's been so good at updating those.

Better Days

Kate is doing better. She's back up to drinking 4-6 ounces of formula about every 4 hours. She's got a lot of catching up to do.

Not so Great Kate

Kate has caught some kind of bug in her tummy. She's been vomiting and having diarrhea for the past couple of days. She's refused to eat as well leaving her at only 14 pounds. She's lost 3 ounces since yesterday. Doctor has prescribed pedialyte for the next 24 hours to prevent dehydration and tonight, Kate gulped 3 oz. of it (the most amount of liquid she's had in one sitting in 4 days).

It's extremely heartbreaking to see Kate's ribs under her skin when I change her clothes or to notice how loose her pants have become. It's extremely difficult to hear her whimper and moan from discomfort and hunger and to have her arms cling desparately around my neck for comfort. It's been grueling to watch her reject her bottle yet try to slurp every drop of water from our cups only to choke on it.

It's been very difficult to try and keep a smile on my face for Kate and Ellie and Jae. I think I've finally lost it today.

But tomorrow is another day and I'm comforted to know that God is in control. Day by day I learn to depend on Him.

Sleep Report

Kate is truly Great.

Last night was a grizzly sight, but Kate has made tremendous strides today. She took her morning and afternoon naps without any crying or fuss. The evening nap was a bit more difficult, she cried for 20 minutes then settled down. I was told Ellie went into her room shortly after and Jae found Kate wide awake in her crib so he brought her down to play, which in the end was a good thing cuz we were able to feed her and put her down for bed at an earlier time. She fussed at bedtime as well, but it wasn't as long or as bad as last night so we are slowly seeing progress.

The only downside is that Kate's smiles aren't as twinkly and bright as we're used to and when we hold her, she holds on to us in a closer manner. And there are times when she looks like she lost her best friend, which I guess she has.

I may be jinxing Kate's progress by saying this, but sleep training with Kate is like a walk in the park compared to the hell we went through with Ellie. It's made us realize how Ellie was set in her ways even as a baby.

Speaking of the belly, a conversation I had with her during dinner....
"Did you hear Kate crying last night?"
"Yes." Ate a piece of hot dog.
"How long do you think she was she crying?"
"Ummm....10 hours!" Ellie smiles.
"Yeah, it seemed like it. Did it bother you?"
Very casually and with a smile she says, "No. It didn't." Ate another piece of hot dog.

It begins

The sleep training has begun...full force. I almost wished we didn't have to go through the fiasco again...Kate used to sleep a good 6 hours straight at night...we were so happy. Then she began to wake up and couldn't go back to sleep unless she had the pacifier in her mouth...so....we begin having her sleep without it today.

It's gonna be a long week, but we look forward to the prize at the end.

I love my Kate.

Everyone needs a sister.

Kate, the Scorpion

Symbol - The Scorpion

Ruling Planet - Mars

Birthstone - Topaz

Flower - Chrysanthemum

Color - Red

The Scorpio Personality
Your child the "scorpion" likes to live in a world of truths. A Scorpio child likes to visualize the completion and realization of his mental and physical efforts. He or she has an inner vision of the soul that can see beyond illusion. Scorpios tend to be secretive, and others must earn their trust. Scorpio children are noted for their effervescent humor and their attractiveness; these children are the most magnetic of all the children of the zodiac, often attracting the admiration of the opposite sex. They are quick and restless and tireless workers.
Because of their great energy and force, Scorpios should be taught the difference between constructive and destructive power. They should be taught self-mastery and be given careful direction so their tremendous energy and drive is channeled into creative activity. These children should also be taught early in life that as they show understanding, so will understanding and compassion be shown to them.
The Scorpio child is talented in promotion activities, writing, designing, modeling, and acting.

Famous People Born under the Scorpio Sign:
Pablo Picasso, Artist, October 25
Julia Roberts, Actress, October 28
Marie Curie, Chemist, November 7
Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, November 19

Pretty interesting stuff. Another site said Scorpion babies don't like wet diapers and will be more than happy to let you know. Tis true.

Hasselhoff look-a-like

Some new phots of little Kate. She really is a squirt.
I gave her a bath today. I dried and combed her hair and I swear she looked like David Hasselhoff. I only wish I could have taken a photo of her in that state to compare the two. Her curly locks are out of control!

Me Bebe

Some pics. of Kate. She's 2 weeks old. It seems longer. We got our hospital bill. It's not even funny. I hate that hospital now.

Jae's first day back at work...my first day alone with "the kids". Sounds strange to say. It's been going well so far. I'm living off of caffeine. Kate woke me up this morning at 1:00 am for a feeding, then 2:00 am, then 2:15 am, then 3:00 am, then 3:30 am, then 4:00 am, and then I think again at 5:45 am. Also consider that I spent anywhere from 5-25 minutes rocking, changing, feeding, or burping her so I never really fell asleep.

It wasn't until the morning that she decided to sleep past 2.5 hours, but Ellie decided to wake up early so I believe I only got about 2 cumulitive hours of sleep. I don't remember it being like this with Ellie. She was a difficult baby to console, but once she was out, she was out. Kate on the other hand likes to take cat naps and snack throughout the wee hours of the morning. She's a completely different challenge.
